A quick heads up: Metro Bus and Rail will be operating on a Sunday/holiday schedule for the Fourth of July on Thursday.
Don’t forget, the inaugural Metro Art Moves summer tour is set for this Thursday. Grab a snack from Qdoba, Tossed or Boba 7 - use your TAP card to get a discount! – then meet up at 7th/Metro at 5:30 p.m. The free tour ends about an hour and a half later at Grand Park’s 4th of July Block Party, where you can use your TAP card again to get free sunglasses and then enjoy fireworks over the City of L.A. Speaking of fireworks, Concerts on the Green is holding a July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza at Warner Park on Thursday. A concert, featuring the Los Angeles Pierce Symphonic Winds, begins at 6 p.m. and fireworks are scheduled to go off around 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. (Metro Orange Line to Warner Center Transit Hub, Metro Bus 150/240 to Topanga Canyon/Marylee)
Want to see an outdoor movie instead of fireworks? Eat See Hear is showing Stripes at the L.A. State Historic Park on Saturday, July 6. There will be food trucks and live music at the event. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the movie begins around 8:30 p.m. Show your TAP card at the entrance to get a $2 discount on an individual pass. (Metro Gold Line to Chinatown Station)
And for more movies, check out the Old Pasadena Film Festival, a free four-week movie screening series that kicks off this weekend. Head to Pasadena’s Central Park on Friday and scare yourself cold with The Ring, or watch the Robert Redford version of The Great Gatsby at One Colorado Courtyard on Saturday. Both outdoor movies start at 8:30 p.m. (Metro Gold Line to Del Mar Station or Metro Bus 260 to Fair Oaks/Del Mar for Central Park, Metro Gold Line to Memorial Park Station or Metro Bus 180 to Colorado/Fair Oaks for One Colorado Courtyard)
Anime Expo is back in town, taking place at the L.A. Convention Center from Thursday through Sunday. Things get going around 9 a.m. each day and most panels/showings end around midnight. The only exception is Sunday, where the closing ceremony is set to start at 5 p.m. A one-day pass is $40, but if you’re only interested in checking out the exhibition hall, it’s $20. (Metro Expo/Blue Line to Pico Station, Metro Silver Line to Figueroa/Pico, or walk from 7th/Metro)
